Central Illinois now has its very first coronavirus testing lab in Pekin to help test civilians for COVID-19. CEO of Reditus Laboratories Dr. Aaron Rossi started the lab for anatomical and clinical pathology services and to focus on histology, along with molecular biology and testing. By using polymerase chain reactions (PCR) they are able to extract up to billions of copies of one sample of DNA and then use that to diagnose specific bugs, viruses, and other diseases.
Reditus Laboratories opened its doors to COVID-19 samples this past Monday taking in over 200 samples. Just yesterday they took in over a thousand and by the end of this week they plan to generate up to two-thousand test results a day. Residents in the surrounding areas of central Illinois will now have quicker, easier, and faster access to test results, with a 24-48 hour turnaround from the lab.
