New COVID-19 Testing Facility for Peoria Area

In Peoria, citizens who have COVID-like symptoms or have been in contact with a carrier of the novel coronavirus will soon be able to get tested for the disease. On Thursday, April 16, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced that a COVID-19 testing center will be implemented at Heartland Health Services in sometime in the near future–however, there is not a set date yet. This expansion of testing to the Peoria area is part of Illinois’s plan to improve testing capacities as well as specimen collection of the virus. As of April 21st, about 150,000 people in the state have gotten tested. Results of these tests say 31,508 people are positive with the disease; in addition, 1,350 have died of complications from the disease.
