In 2012, Carmike Cinemas bought several movie theaters from Rave, including one here in Peoria. But now it looks like people are going to have to get used to another new name for the theater.
AMC recently announced an agreement to purchase Carmike Cinemas for $1.1 billion. This will make AMC the largest theater chain in the United States and the world. This will give them a combined total of 45 states with over 600 theater locations, like the one here in Peoria. The CEO of AMC says that AMC and Carmike have had very little overlap in their markets since AMC was based more in clustered urban areas, while Carmike has more theaters in rural areas. Layoffs are predicted to be minimal, as employees of Carmike will likely join AMC.
