On Monday, the student senate hosted a rally for Bradley students to come together and plea for map grants in Illinois. Map grants impact about 25 percent of Bradley students and of those recipients, a high percentage include lower income families and minorities. Map grants have been a great investment to enable students, but due to Illinois’ lack of a budget, the future of the grants is uncertain.
Illinois senator Dave Koehler attended the rally as well to hear the students plea and give input on the situation. Illinois governor Bruce Rauner is currently trying to meet with republican and democratic leaders in Illinois to establish a budget, but democratic leaders did not show to the first budget meeting on Tuesday. The future of map grants is still at large.
