A new report from the learning policy institute touches on the impending teacher shortage crisis in the United States. If there are no significant changes made to the educational system, the United States could potentially be facing a shortage of more than one hundred thousand teachers annually by 2025. The report highlights some reasons this crisis is approaching. These reasons include: during the recession, a surplus of teachers were laid off, there a large amount of pressure on teachers when it comes to student test scores, an increase of k through 12 student enrollment with a low enrollment of teachers in prep programs, and job factors like reduction in state funding and job security. Bradley University’s chair of teacher education Dr. Dean Cantu conducted research of his own on this issue this past spring. Cantu is available for interviews about the subject by contacting the office of public relations.
