Violence Near Campus this Past Weekend

UPDATE: On September 7, 2016 at approximately 4 p.m., William G. Runyon turned himself in at the Peoria Police Department on a Peoria County warrant for First Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. Over the weekend there was a shooting and a homicide in the 900 block of North Garfield Avenue, this is just a short distance from Bradley’s campus. Police officers responded just after 7 a.m. Saturday morning to find two men, ages 19 and 24, with gunshot wounds. Both victims were taken to the hospital. One of the victims, Morris Thomas the second was pronounced dead in the emergency room and the other unidentified victim’s condition has not been released. Peoria police arrested one female suspect Saturday night on charges of murder and aggravated battery, but the suspect was later released. The other suspect, 22 year old William G Runyon is still wanted by the police. Runyon is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Also on Saturday, that same evening the jimmy johns on west Main Street was robbed at gunpoint. The suspect, wearing a black hoodie and black bandana covering his face, entered the business and displayed a handgun to the employee. The suspect obtained property and fled from the business northwest, away from campus. No suspects have been arrested and the investigation is continuing.
