Movie Review: The Witch

The horror flick “The Witch” was released on February 19. The film was full of suspense, betrayal, and an extremely haunting score. (See video for more.)

The movie surrounds a banished family living in 1630 New England. When the family’s youngest son vanishes mysteriously into the woods, their bonds and faith are tested. “The Witch” had great reviews from renowned horror lovers, including Stephen King, who said it was one of the scarier films he’d seen. It was unlike many horror films produced today. The movie had little gore; a riveting storyline following the development of the oldest daughter; and most of the horror came from the building suspense as her family turned against her.

Caitie’s comments: The disclaimer at the end revealed that the movie was based off of a series of diary entries, letters, and historical facts from the time, which left me with goosebumps. If you’re in the mood for a good horror film, “The Witch” is the movie to see!
