{"id":931,"date":"2015-05-11T01:48:45","date_gmt":"2015-05-11T06:48:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/?p=931"},"modified":"2015-05-11T01:48:45","modified_gmt":"2015-05-11T06:48:45","slug":"bradley-baseball-honors-seniors-mothers-in-final-home-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/2015\/05\/11\/bradley-baseball-honors-seniors-mothers-in-final-home-game\/","title":{"rendered":"Bradley baseball honors seniors, mothers in final home game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bradley University&#8217;s baseball team wrapped up their 2015 home schedule\u00a0yesterday with a sound 13-4 thumping at the hands\u00a0I-74 rival Illinois State, but the team has much more going for it off the field.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Bradley baseball is putting together quite the 2015 season.<\/p>\n<p>Ignoring, for a second, the team\u2019s on field performance, which included their first triple play since the 1940s and a spot on ESPN\u2019s Top Ten plays, the team is making marks off the diamond as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=n2fQgbleOWM\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=n2fQgbleOWM<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Sunday\u2019s game was Senior Day for Bradley, as seniors Isaac Smith, David Koll, Drew Carlile, Sean Safko, Stephen Toma and Graig Weber all played in their final home game as a Brave. The players were joined on the field pregame by their parents for the game\u2019s ceremonial first pitch, with each mother wearing their respective Bradley player\u2019s pink jersey.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The pink jerseys are an annual event for Bradley\u2019s athletic teams. In February, Bradley\u2019s women\u2019s basketball team hosted their 12th annual pink game while the softball team hosted their annual event last month.\u00a0Bradley\u2019s men\u2019s basketball team joined the party a little later than the university\u2019s other sports, having hosted its first pink game in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Gina Morss-Fischer, Affiliate Development Director for Susan G. Komen Memorial, said in 2013 it was a great partnership between the two entities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2019Go Pink, Go Bradley\u2019 is a great way for Bradley University and the Susan G. Komen Memorial Affiliate to spread the breast health message while also raising money for local community health grants and research,\u201d said Morss-Fischer.<\/p>\n<p>The pink games aren\u2019t the only way Bradley baseball raises money for cancer research. The team partnered with the Vs. Cancer foundation this season to raise money to fight childhood cancer. Click to enlarge.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Junior starting pitcher Steve Adkins was put in charge of Bradley\u2019s fundraising efforts by head coach Elvis Dominguez. Adkins and the team visited the Children\u2019s Hospital of Illinois in April because, according to Adkins, they wanted to see who their efforts would benefit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince half of the money we raised is going, right here, to the Children\u2019s Hospital of Illinois, we just wanted to get in touch with some of these kids,\u201d Adkins said. \u201cI think a big reason we wanted to do this was to try and get in touch with these kids and show them we got their back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The nationwide rallying behind cancer research seems to be working.
