Yet it seems that each year more shoppers choose to spend their money on internet purchases as online sales out-gun in-store retailers in sales. Since the start of the pandemic, in-store shopping has declined dramatically &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2021\/11\/27\/black-friday-shopping-in-stores-drops-28percent-from-pre-pandemic-levels.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">though 2021 has seen a 47.5% increase in foot traffic in brick and mortar stores since 2020, <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">CNBC said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In 2019 prior to the pandemic,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.businesswire.com\/news\/home\/20211127005194\/en\/Sensormatic-Solutions-by-Johnson-Controls-Shopper-Traffic-Analytics-Reveal-In-Store-Black-Friday-Shopping-Increased-Year-Over-Year\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Businesswire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> said, brick and mortar stores had 28.3% more shoppers than this black Friday, Nov. 26, according to data from <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sensormatic.com\/?utm_campaign=FY22-Sensormatic-Holiday&amp;utm_medium=BusinessWire&amp;utm_source=Black-Friday-Sensormatic-Home\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sensoramic Solutions<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Online sales have not seen a decline as their brick and mortar cousins. According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/business.adobe.com\/resources\/holiday-shopping-report.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Adobe Digital Economy Index<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, consumers spent $8.9 billion on online shopping on Black Friday alone. Online sales are expected to be even higher on Cyber Monday, Nov. 29.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">So the question remains &#8211; why are more people choosing to shop online rather than in-store? (Nov. 26, 2021).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s not so much for the fear of it (Covid), but who wants to leave their house and stand in a line for who knows how long,\u201d Jameson said. \u201cI think it\u2019s just too easy to shop online and I know it\u2019s discouraging to real stores but even the sales online are better.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jameson went on to cite that it is even more difficult for him to shop in person because of his lack of transportation. Because the roads can get so busy, it is harder for services such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lyft.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Lyft<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Uber<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to keep up with consumer demands on Black Friday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Black Friday may be a shopper&#8217;s dream, but for those who work in the retail business, it can be a nightmare. Paige Donnelly, a high school senior, worked at Old Navy during Black Friday this year. \u201cWell, it felt like the longest shift ever. (Nov. 26, 2021)<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The general manager of Peoria\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/oldnavy.gap.com\/stores\/il\/peoria\/oldnavy-839.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Old Navy<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, 5201 W War Memorial Drive, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dawn-draminski-0b233b76\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dawn Draminski<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> has over five years of experience at her Old Navy Store. When asked about 2021\u2019s Black Friday in comparison to previous years she had this to say:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWell it was different &#8211; previous years we\u2019ve been open on Thanksgiving as well. But this year was way busier than last . . . This year maybe some but not really. Half the people who came in weren\u2019t even wearing a mask so I doubt Covid really had much of an impact on it,\u201d she responded.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In-store personnel are not the only ones affected by the swarm of consumers on Black Friday.
