There\u2019s a student who is bright red, sprinting the straights of the track while another huffs as he tries to climb to the top of the stair machine. The rock wall is covered in climbers and every single treadmill is taken. Across from the treadmills, Nicole Mccabe is gripping a bar with hundred pound weights hanging on the ends. Now, it\u2019s the biggest part of her life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI have been interested in fitness since high school,\u201d Mccabe said, \u201cbut I didn\u2019t start taking it seriously until sophomore year of college when my roommate told me she was a bodybuilder. I started going with her to the gym just to see what she\u2019d do, but then it became a daily routine and I fell in love with watching my body get stronger and feeling healthy. I\u2019ve even made a fitness account on social media so I can see my progress and hopefully encourage other people to do the same.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thousands of people on social media have hopped on one of the latest Instagram trends, creating \u201cfit-stas.\u201d These \u201cfit-sta\u201d accounts are profiles that are separate from their personal\/work accounts that are used to track their fitness journey and inspire\/teach others that are interested in doing the same. Some pioneers of the fit-sta trend are people like Jule Loui or Brittne Jackson who have both created careers for themselves within fitness simply because of their fit-stas (see more of Loui and Jackson\u2019s content at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/juleloui.fit\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/juleloui.fit\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/brittnejackson\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/brittnejackson\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">). All of Markin\u2019s resources and equipment that are available are listed on Bradley\u2019s website, at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bradley.edu\/campuslife\/campusrec\/facilities\/markin\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.bradley.edu\/campuslife\/campusrec\/facilities\/markin\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOne of the best resources Bradley offers is the \u2018Get Fit Stay Fit\u2019 program,\u201d Wilkes said, \u201cwhere every time you come to Markin, you get points that can eventually add up and result in big prizes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Get Fit Stay Fit program is an initiative that Bradley University implemented where both Bradley students and staff are encouraged to participate. Every time you scan your ID into the Markin facility, you are rewarded with points that can add up and get you fitness-related prizes at the end of the semester. The program is an initiative to get people on their feet, which is especially important amidst the pandemic. My favorite workout activities are lifting anything heavy and leg day. It is a small gain of confidence if I see myself lifting more than a guy in the gym. Since beginning in June, she has lost 30 pounds.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another regular gym goer and friend of Mccabe is 20 year-old local resident Joshua Collier. Collier is not a Bradley student, but he lives in Peoria and has a Markin gym membership.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019d rather be going to Markin to workout instead of a Planet Fitness because Markin has more equipment and more fitness programs that actually gets me and my friends excited to go workout.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mccabe explains that she is a lot more confident in herself and feels physically more healthy than she ever has before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When asked about the best advice she could give to someone starting to get into fitness, she said \u201ca transformation is not going to happen overnight. You have to have that mentality of \u20186 months from now, I\u2019ll thank myself\u2019 instead of \u2018I worked out yesterday, why is my body still the same?\u2019.
