In the film, parents of victims, first responders and community members share their accounts of the shooting and how their lives continue to be impacted.<\/p>\n<p>Following the documentary, BUPD had a short presentation about the procedures that would be implemented in an active shooter situation on Bradley\u2019s campus, as well as the resources available to students in the aftermath.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00938.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1611 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00938-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00938-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00938-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00938-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Officer Savage instructs students in the case of an active shooter to &#8220;Run, Hide or Fight&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With an increase in mass shootings across the country, the possibility for an active shooter coming onto campus has been at the forefront of discussion between student, faculty and law enforcement. Brandon Sheridan, Student Senate\u2019s Vice President of Campus Safety, thinks a precautionary event like this could provide students information and skills they might need if a true emergency were to ever occur.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00941.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1608 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00941-209x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"209\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00941-209x300.jpg 209w, https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00941-768x1102.jpg 768w, https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00941-714x1024.jpg 714w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 209px) 100vw, 209px\" \/><\/a> Pictured from Left to Right: Chief Joschko, Officer Savage, and Vice President of Campus Safety Brandon Sheridan<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy going to this, you\u2019ll gain a better understanding of Newtown and the Sandy Hook shooting, but you\u2019ll also gain knowledge on what to do in this situation,\u201d Sheridan said. \u201cWhether that\u2019s at a concert, just recently in Las Vegas, or more specifically here on Bradley\u2019s campus, you\u2019ll know the procedures specifically designed for Bradley\u2019s students, faculty and staff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Many students, including junior Eduardo Tapia, believe there is a disconnect from seeing these tragedies occur other places and believing it could ever happen on Bradley\u2019s campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I found most striking was Officer Savage talking about survival tips at the end,\u201d Tapia said. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of clear that none of us expect this to happen, but the threat is still very, very real.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Officer Sean Savage of the Bradley Police Department considers this event critical in preparing students in a true emergency. According to Savage, while the subject may be uncomfortable to think about, it\u2019s a necessary thing to do to prepare for survival.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/DSC00942.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/IMG_03381001.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1619\" src=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/IMG_03381001-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/IMG_03381001-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2017\/10\/IMG_03381001.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">Officer Savage at the <em>Newtown<\/em> screening<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe best way to do be ready is by planning ahead and being prepared for these situations,\u201d Savage said. \u201cThere\u2019s no real good way to do it except for thinking about it, talking about it and discussing it with other people. We need to start the conversation now so that we\u2019re prepared when it happens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McKenzie Ruyle, a junior and resident advisor at Bradley, believes she and other students have been well-equipped to handle an active shooter situation, if faced with one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do think a lot of us would stand a chance,\u201d Ruyle said. \u201cEspecially as RAs, we\u2019ve been equipped with all that knowledge and know exactly what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sheridan and members of BUPD hope this screening will serve as a wakeup call for students and start a conversation about campus safety, especially during an active shooter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people think \u2018oh that could never happen to me. That\u2019s just something I see on the news,\u2019\u201d Sheridan said. \u201cIt could be life saving.
