Bradley’s Intramural Sports Program Thriving Through The Pandemic

Even though Covid cases continue to linger, Bradley University’s intramural sports program has been in full swing. After a year full of chaos, the university was able to offer some more options for campus activities this spring semester.

Assistant Director of Campus Recreation Scott Wood explains how students can get involved in these extracurricular activities.

“You can get involved by just getting a group of friends together and signing up on imleagues.com. We have about 25% of campus that participates in intramurals.”

Anyone is allowed to sign up and make a team of their own. Participating in intramurals gives students a chance to get some fresh air and exercise with their peers. It’s really all about just having fun with friends and getting a break from school.

One downside to the program is that masks have to be worn at all times. Some argue that this can hinder the results of their performance, but student Sage O’Brien says otherwise.

“Honestly, I’m having so much fun that I don’t even notice I’m wearing a mask. Yeah it can get hot sometimes, but it’s not that different from playing normally.”

Others may disagree, but it seems like the program hasn’t changed that much since the pandemic hit. Something that Wood wants to push for in the future is more female involvement.

“It’s hard to get that motivation because maybe they (females) don’t know how to play. It’s not necessarily, especially this year, about knowing how to play or anything. It’s just going out and with your girlfriends and having a good time and doing something that’s maybe outside the box.”

This program allows students to try new things and participate in sports they might have not played before. It’s a good way to get to know more people and interact with students in a more social setting. This year hasn’t been normal for anyone, so it’s a great opportunity for students to get involved and have some fun on campus!
