After last year’s mediocre season, the Bradley University Men’s Baseball team started off strong in the 2018 season with a record of 8-1. We sat down with sophomore starter Luke Shadid to tell us more about their recent success.
“So far this season, we lost our first game unfortunately. But we are on an eight-game winning streak right now. It feels really good, especially since last year’s season didn’t go as we had hoped it would,” says the Peoria native. This team is a whole different team, we have a lot of new guys in the freshman class and Junior college transfers who have really stepped up and put in the work in showing what they can do on the field. It’s been really exciting, and we are looking forward to continue the streak as we go to Florida this week.” – Luke Shadid
With the new freshman and junior college transfers, Bradley has high expectations this year. “One of our goals this year to win a Missouri Valley Conference Championship,” says Luke. “We obviously came up short last season, but this year is a completely different year and we all know that this goal is attainable and possible if we all set our aims high.” Coming from Peoria and having strong ties with Bradley Baseball, Luke demonstrates strong team leadership.
With the home opener for Bradley just a few weeks away, we sat down with a couple students to see what they are most excited for. “I’m really excited to go to the baseball games for the fee giveaways and I have always been a big baseball fan, so it will be nice to go to the games to watch the team and show my school spirit,” says junior Accounting major Kaleb Reining. We also sat down with Junior Accounting and Chemistry double major Scott Seymour to see what he had to say. “I’m just excited for the baseball season in general. I have always been into baseball, and as a student athlete myself, it is always fun to go out and support other athletes as they compete and represent Bradley.” Scott runs cross country and track and field here at Bradley, but says he has and will continue to show his support and passion for other sports around campus.
As mentioned earlier, Bradley has started off strong this season with a record of eight wins and only one loss coming from the first game of the season. After losing to Georgia State, Bradley turned around with a huge couple of wins from Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State. They kept their momentum going by sweeping South Dakota State and Belmont University and look to continue their win streak as they head to Florida for their spring break schedule.
