“Millennials Paying the Price for Booze and Cigs”
By Mónica Velázquez
Find out why more and more younger people are buying more cigarettes and alcohol than in years past.
In a world of healthy eats and more millennials looking for healthier options in their daily lives, many choose the taboo and still cling to alcohol and smoking products to relax and stay hip. A recent research study released by Swedish Match, 23% of Millennials “current smokers”, compared to 22% of those from Generation X and 17% of Baby Boomers.
One thing to keep in mind is that, with many new innovations and concoctions for both of these items, it’s easy to give into these temptations.
From Illinois region expenditure data spanning 2009-2014, it was found that we as Illinois residents have been spending 16 cents more than we have in the past.
Though this statistic seems small, with the tax increases that could be set in place (once Governor Rauner decides on a structured tax plan), that 16 cents could spike to an amount far larger than it has been now and in the past. With no foreseeable change in the works, it’s bottoms up from here on out.
