Along with the boys and girls club of greater Peoria and Kuk Sool Won of Pekin comes &#8220;Girls growing together&#8221;&#8230;a free young women&#8217;s empowerment event that will feature a self-defense class and self-esteem workshop. These two organizations are coming together to confront the issue of assaults that take place in central Illinois. The areas violent crime rate is up 8 percent higher than last year.<\/p>\n<p>The event will feature many local women-focused organizations to teach and give information as well. The event is Saturday November 5th at the St. Peter&#8217;s Lutheran church in East Peoria, doors open at 12.
