Whether it is, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.illinois.gov\/content\/dam\/soi\/en\/web\/illinois\/documents\/government\/coronavirus-disaster-proc-11-12-2021.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">social distancing, mask mandates, or vaccine requirements<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, there has been a plethora of changes that have been put into effect.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">March of 2020 was an unprecedented year for people around the world, but those in the United States are still trying to figure out how to return to normal, or at least a sense of normalcy. Abbi Taylor, a senior at Bradley University and a Dietetics major agreed that it\u2019s time to start getting used to our surroundings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI don\u2019t ever think that there will ever be a \u2018normal\u2019 anymore,\u201d she said. \u201cThe events happening are always changing culture and the world as we know it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.05-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3056\" src=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.05-PM-300x176.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"389\" height=\"228\" srcset=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.05-PM-300x176.png 300w, http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.05-PM.png 644w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 389px) 100vw, 389px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After everything that everyone has been through since 2019, it is evident that this new \u201cnormal\u201d that we are all experiencing may be around longer than expected. Fortunately, there have been changes made both on and off-campus to accommodate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMy college experience has been mostly remote since the pandemic,\u201d said Abbi. \u201cI think that the availability of online classes will stay in effect as many students and professors still enjoy teaching or learning in that capacity.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.15-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3055\" src=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.15-PM-300x184.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"345\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.15-PM-300x184.png 300w, http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.15-PM.png 540w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 345px) 100vw, 345px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On the other side of the spectrum, it is evident that not everyone is a fan of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinkimpact.com\/elearning-statistics\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Zoom University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. It has proved to help some individuals out, but, unfortunately, it is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/elearningindustry.com\/advantages-and-disadvantages-online-learning\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">not the most ideal situation<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> for everyone considering the lack of equal resources.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I believe our newfound reliance on the internet and the ability to do many tasks with just a smartphone and an internet connection will be permanent,\u201d said Lexi Juergens, junior at Illinois State University. Being able to connect via the internet has been a lifesaver when stuck at home, but it has not been available for everyone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/internet\/2020\/04\/30\/53-of-americans-say-the-internet-has-been-essential-during-the-covid-19-outbreak\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Pew Research Center <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">found that 53% of Americans thought that internet access was essential to them in the pandemic, but not everyone has easy access. If higher education continues to utilize online territory, changes need to be made to ensure equal access all around.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.26-PM.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-3054\" src=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.26-PM-300x182.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"369\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.26-PM-300x182.png 300w, http:\/\/com.bradley.edu\/newslab\/files\/2021\/11\/Screenshot-2021-11-29-1.45.26-PM.png 655w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 369px) 100vw, 369px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mhec.org\/news\/new-report-digital-divide-among-college-students\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Over a quarter <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of adults in the U.S. do not have internet available to them at home, so unless students are on campus, many may not have it readily available to them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students nowadays have to worry about more than just their education. Alysia Solis, Hospitality Management major and senior at Bradley, said that her idea of the \u201ccollege experience\u201d has been skewed since the pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe college experience is all about surviving at this point,\u201d said Alysia. \u201cPrior to March 2020, I would have said the college experience would be about making memories with others; however, now I find myself constantly navigating all of the constant changes and consequences of poor choices.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u00a0It is with high hopes that college campuses would return to normal, but it is clear that many of these changes are there for the long haul.
