Households all across the country are adjusting to the new “normal” that the coronavirus pandemic has brought upon them. This pandemic is bringing everything into the household. College students are now learning everyday from the comfort of their own bed, adults are doing their jobs from makeshift offices, and children are trying their best with keeping up with online classes. The Glidden family is one of these households trying to adjust to a very different household.
“It has been a lot different having the whole family in this house again,” said Zachariah Glidden, a sophomore at Nicolet High School. He later added “the last time we had everyone in this house together was Christmas.”
Zachariah (16) was the oldest sibling in the Glidden house since his two older brothers Noah (18) and Isaiah (21), left for college. It was just him and his younger sister Elizabeth (13), until colleges across the country went to online learning.

When asked about how the transition to online learning has been Zachariah and Elizabeth both said they like it. The main reason being because they “don’t have to go to real school.” They both said that they have been keeping up with their assignments and they are excited to get back to school to see their friends and favorite teachers.
This will definitely be a memorable freshman year for Noah Glidden who was in his first year at College of Lake County where he plays baseball. He did not expect to be home during this time. “I saw schools were closing, but I never thought that CLC would close.” He later added “this isn’t how i planned on having my freshman year of college go.”
When asked how he is staying in shape Noah said he is hitting and doing at home workouts.

Not only are children trying to get adjusted to this new lifestyle, adults all across the country are still doing their jobs but from home offices. Dan Glidden is a Sales Executive for Briggs and Stratton and is forced to do all his work from a makeshift home office in his basement.
Dan loves to landscape thats why he still does side jobs.
“It’s been a little weird not being able to travel and do my job like I usually do, but I am still able to do some side jobs so at least it gets me outside,” Dan Glidden added “since I can’t do go out and sell anything, I am on the phone basically all day.”

Not everyone in the Glidden house has to adjust though, Janice Glidden who is a website creator, worked from home even before the lockdown started. “This isn’t something new to me, I have been doing this for years now. The only thing I need to get used to is having all of my children in the same house again.”

The whole family agrees that it is good to have everybody home again because they get to spend time with each other. Like most families though, they do want everything to go back to life before the lockdown.
