While Bradley intramurals are full of interesting stories, on a Monday night before thanksgiving, a particularly interesting game broke out. During a game between fraternities Delta Upsilon and Phi Kappa Tau, the volleyball court was filled with talented players. 11 players of the 12 on the court for the 6’s volleyball games are on the roster for the Bradley Club Volleyball team.
For students who have spent years playing competitive volleyball, a quick intramural game is a nice break to simply enjoy the game they love.
“I’ve been playing volleyball for about 9 years now. I enjoy volleyball so much because you must rely on your team so much,” said Nathan Rosendale, DU member and junior club player. “Playing intramurals is a lot different from club because there are different rules compared to club. You aren’t able to run the rotations that you do in club so you have to adapt and trust your team even more,” said Rosendale.
Most club players have been playing volleyball for a long time, so playing a nice quiet game of intramurals allows for them to enjoy the game and the people more than usual.
“Club is more fast paced and competitive. While intramurals is all about relaxing and having fun, playing and enjoying competing against our friends,” said Brian Michalski, senior club player and DU member.
Not only do the players enjoy the calmer environment, but those working the games enjoy a higher level of competition.
“Watching intramural is very entertaining to watch for me especially at a high competitive level. Watching club players absolutely makes it more enjoyable. I believe watching the best of the best in any sport is the only way to watch,” said Kyle Bulseco, intramural supervisor.
For junior Phi Tau member and club player Abraham Manappalli, he recommends all students, talented or not, to join a volleyball team in intramurals.
“Intramurals is very fun because it lets you blow off some steam, hit the ball hard. Even if you don’t necessarily know what you’re doing, it still is a good way to destress in college, which we all need,” said Manappalli.
Whether watching or playing, a good game of 6’s intramural volleyball can always be made better by a court full of club players. Taking a break between tournaments during the holiday season, the Braves club volleyball team looks to hone their skills in anyway possible, even in intramurals.
