COM 103 - the Oral Communication Process
will be taught in Vienna, Austria, during the May 24-June 9, 2007 Study Abroad program.   This is the first time the course will be offered off-site.
“The intent of the course will be to provide the basic skills of public speaking, interpersonal communication and small group communication in a cultural environment that will allow the participating students to integrate topics pertinent to the diverse Austrian culture into their assignments”, according to B. J. Lawrence, the professor of the course. Students will have the opportunity to explore Vienna and to develop topics that will examine the unique issues of Vienna and/or the differences between the Austrian and American culture. Students from the University of Vienna will assist the students in their research and will provide the background for the group discussion on the “Americanness” of American popular culture. Students participating in the Study Abroad will also have special visits to Mauthausen, a Nazi work/death camp and a day trip to Salzburg.
COM 494 - Corporate and Agency Seminar
held May 29-June 8, 2007 in Chicago

During this two-week period, a selected group of 8-10 juniors and seniors have an opportunity to meet with major industry executives at their professional locations to become familiar with various aspects of the dynamic and challenging world of communications. Students will hear informative presentations from the professionals addressing subjects such as their career paths, information about the structure and organization of the company, agency or association, and specific examples of the type of work typically done by the executives. Often the industry professionals also talk about internship and job possibilities in their sector of the business world.
COM 494 - Commercial Film and TV
was taught in Hollywood, California during January Interim.
The course was established by professor Bob Jacobs, as an insight into the commercial film and television industry. Students are able to expand their knowledge of production and post-production. The industry has many aspects and many job opportunites that students did not know existed. Meeting the industry's best directors, writers, editors, visual effects artists, sound editors, and much more, to learn how everyone got started, will help students decide if this industry is right for them.
COM 494 - Communication in Beijing
are held in May Interims.
Professor Daniel Ng and Dr. John Schweitzer take students to Beijing, China to visit the booming economy of Advertising and Public Relations. Students visit Adverting and PR agencies. They also visit Beijing University to attend lectures by prominent Chinese scholars.
